Rancho Bernardo (“RB” to many San Diego residents) was a master planned community where construction began in the 1960’s, continued in the 1980’s, and resumed in the 2000’s. Within Rancho Bernardo there are several business parks that are home to major companies including Hewlett-Packard, Sony Electronics, Siemens, and Northrop Grumman. Many of the residents work within minutes from their places of work, with nearly 50,000 jobs contributing to the vibrant economy of the area.

There are five golf courses in RB, including the Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Course, Bernardo Heights Country Club, the Oaks North Golf Course, Bernardo Heights Country Club, and Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club. In addition to golf, RB is home to a racquet club, kid’s sports facilities, and six community centers.

Quality education is also an important aspect for most families in the area. The Poway Unified School district is well-known for having some of the best schools in San Diego County. The schools have high scores and great learning environments. The schools have driven the prices of Rancho Bernardo homes. RB also hosts an Annual Art, Wine, and Food festival.

Within RB are planned communities offering an array of fun activities for the entire family. The various community centers include Bernardo Heights Recreation Center, Eastview Community Center, High Country West, Oaks North Community Center, Swim and Tennis Club, Seven Oaks Community Center, and Westwood Club.

At one time, the only residents of this area were the various local Indian tribes. While strolling around the neighborhood it is still easy to embrace the beauty and climate that brought the Indians. It is still bringing seniors, families, and couples to buy real estate in Rancho Bernardo.

The majority of the homes in Rancho Bernardo are middle class, however, there are some breathtaking estates in the area as well. Two-bedroom condos start in the $200,000’s. The Oaks is an age-restricted 55-and-over community (at least one owner must be at last 55 years old). Detached houses in the Oaks are some of the most affordable in San Diego County, starting in the $300,000’s. Large custom homes and estates in neighborhoods including The Trails at Rancho Bernardo, The Old Winery Estates, and the Pales Verdes Estates start at around $1 Million up to several million dollars.
