Scripps Ranch Homes

Information Provided By San Diego Real Estate Professionals at Keller Williams Realty

Scripps Ranch is an inland bedroom community in the City of San Diego which is just East of the I-15 freeway, North of Miramar Air Station and South of Poway.  Newspaperman EW Scripps purchased 400 acres of what is today Scripps Ranch  in 1890 along with his sister Ellen Browning Scripps, and then another 1200 acres soon after.  The neighborhood is known for its rocky terrain with rolling hills, canyons and countryside views.   Scripps Ranch prides itself on being a very civic minded, family-oriented community.

The community of Scripps Ranch was first established along Pomerado Road where huge tall eucalyptus trees sway in the breeze.  There are single-family houses, condominiums, and townhomes in a quiet suburban environment.  In the last ten years, there have been many new homes built and the community is still expanding.   There are approximately 10,500 residences and estimated population just under 30,000 in Scripps Ranch.  Detached single family homes in Scripps Ranch account for about 70% of all housing units.

Scripps Ranch has a lot of natural beauty, open spaces set aside for parks, wildlife preservation and trails.   Located in the heart of Scirpps Ranch is Miramar Reservoir, a small lake surrounded by a near-perfect 5 mile loop which is popular with joggers, bicyclists, and roller bladers.  Rental boats (canoes, rowboats) are available for fishing, and the lake is loaded with bass, trout and catfish.

Many families choose to live in Scripps Ranch because it is only 16 miles to downtown and 13 miles to the coast.  The easy commute allows for a wide range of employment opportunities.  The elementary, middle, and high schools in Scripps Ranch are part of the San Diego Unified School District and have an excellent reputation for quality teaching and academic achievement.   The community has its own library, fire station, and abundance of parks and recreation opportunities, including a newer neighborhood recreation center.
