Rancho Santa Fe Homes

Homes in Rancho Santa Fe are the epitome of luxury living.  This exclusive community is adjacent to Solana Beach and Del Mar to the West, Encinitas and Olivenhain to the North, Carmel Valley, Del Sur, Santaluz, and Rancho Penasquitos and Escondido to the East.  Residents enjoy very temperate coastal climates in a mostly arid picturesque landscape.  The area is lined with horse trails and open spaces, and as such was proudly chosen to host the equestrian events for the 1984 Summer Olympics.

Unlike most Del Mar homes and houses in neighboring Solana Beach that tend to be on rather small lots, houses in Rancho Santa Fe sparcely distributed on large landscaped lots.  Affluent home buyers gravitate toward Rancho Santa Fe for the privacy and grand caliber of RSF properties.

As of the Year 2000 census, the per-capita income of Rancho Santa Fe homeowners was $245,361.  This is the highest income of any town in the United States with at least 1,000 households.  Notable residents include world champion golfer Phil Mickelson, Bill Gates (vacation home), singer Janet Jackson, Glen Bell (founder of Taco Bell), and many others.  Bing Crosby is credited as a founding resident, as he owned a large estate here and was an early promoter of the Rancho Santa Fe Country Club.   He was soon joined by many other Hollywood celebrities.

The original Rancho Santa Fe planned community is called “The Covenant”.  Homes in the Covenant Rancho Santa Fe are mostly luxury estates on multiple acres.  In the early days the RSF Covenant home owners decided to maintain the sense of community with rules that are still in place today.  For example, there are no private mailboxes in the area.  Home owners pick up their mail at the Rancho Santa Fe post office, and enjoy the opportunity to meet and chat with the many interesting personalities who pass through.

Outside of the Covenant there are a number of private and semi-private neighborhoods within Rancho Santa Fe.  Fairbanks Ranch is a gated community built adjacent to the Fairbanks Ranch Country Club.  Rancho Cielo is a gated community adjacent to Escondido on the East side of the Covenant.

Houses in Rancho Santa Fe start well over $1 Million.  Even the few recent Rancho Santa Fe foreclosure properties that occassionally come along are priced over $1Million… but often these homes have sold for upwards of $3Million in recent years.  So there are great real estate bargains available to the sophisticated home buyer.
