Point Loma Homes – San Diego Living At It’s Best!

Pt. Loma is an established, mostly upscale community within the City of San Diego. Point Loma is found on the long finger-like peninsula that guards the entrance to the San Diego Bay. The crest that runs along the peninsula gives the majority of Pt. Loma homes either a commanding view of the Downtown San Diego skyline and harbor to the East or the mesmerizing Pacific Ocean to the West. Many people recognize Pt. Loma for its brilliant cliffs, private coves, and Sunset Cliffs Natural Park that extends along the Pacific Ocean side of the peninsula.

Pt. Loma is known for its beautiful scenery and convenience to downtown San Diego, the San Diego Bay/harbors and the San Diego airport. The west and south of the neighborhood is bordered by the Pacific Ocean, north by the San Diego River, and east by the San Diego Bay and Old Town San Diego.

About one third of Point Loma is federal land. Cabrillo National Monument, the Point Loma Lighthouse, and Point Loma Tide Pools are located at the southernmost tip of Point Loma. Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery and the Pt Loma Naval Base is just north of Cabrillo. Residential neighborhoods start north from there.

The population of Point Loma is slightly over 20,000 residents and there are about 8300 homes in Point Loma. Much of the original home construction in Pt. Loma took place in the 1920’s and 1930’s so you will find many historic and charming vintage homes such as Spanish Revivals or California bungalows.

If you want a character home with a view, Pt. Loma is the place to look. You’ll want to check out Loma Portal, Roseville, Plumosa Park and La Playa neighborhoods. One of a kind, custom homes on larger lots can be found in the “wooded area” near Silvergate as well as in La Playa. Point Loma has many San Diego luxury homes and exclusive multimillion dollar estates with breathtaking and panoramic views of the downtown skyline, harbor, and ocean.

If you prefer newer construction, then you’ll love Liberty Station, the redeveloped Naval Training Center, which is a master planned community of single family homes and townhomes, shopping, schools, entertainment and open space, built within the last decade. Liberty Station is also to a 46 acre waterfront park, executive golf course, and boat channel, as well as High Tech High School, Explorer Elementary and The Rock Church.

Point Loma entry level starter homes start in the mid $400,000s and $500,000s and were built mainly in the late 1940s and 1950s. Condominiums can be found in Liberty Station or near the Yacht Club and Shelter Island and list prices start around $300,000.

Pt. Loma has the ambiance of an old seaport with close proximity to the beach, yet within close proximity to downtown San Diego. Access to cultural events in downtown, maritime activities, and the beach add value to Pt. Loma real estate. Locals and visitors enjoy picnics and bay-side fishing at Shelter Island Park, or boat watching at Harbor Island Park.
