Mira Mesa is a popular inland community of homes in north San Diego, located only ten miles east of the Pacific Ocean.  Homes in Mira Mesa are generally affordable by San Diego standards.  Single-family houses for sale in Mira Mesa are start at $300,000 up to $700,000. Condos start as low $100,000 for a one bedroom, with some attached homes priced as high as $600,000.

The Mira Mesa neighborhood began as a housing development for military families with service personnel stationed at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station to the South. Today Mira Mesa is a wonderful community offering residents a diverse atmosphere served by hundreds of businesses and amenities.

The coastal San Diego climate provides a warm summer-like atmosphere much of the year in Mira Mesa. The neighborhood is a convenient commute to most major centers of employment in San Diego. Mira Mesa Boulevard stretches several miles, lined by a plethora of businesses that range from big-box stores like Target and Home Depot to small ethnic groceries and restaurants.

Mira Mesa is a popular community for San Diego professionals. Directly to the West of Mira Mesa is Sorrento Valley, which is home to a growing number of technology-based companies. Qualcomm is one of the largest employers, but there are dozens of smaller biotech, software, hardware, and research oriented businesses in the area. West Mira Mesa is extremely convenient to Sorrento Valley, La Jolla, and the University of California San Diego. Many Mira Mesa homes are rental properties for area employees.

Many of the street enclaves in Mira Mesa are very quiet and secluded. Many of the streets wind around the Los Penasquitos Canyon which spreads fingers across Mira Mesa. The canyon homes often have wonderful views and great privacy. The oldest homes in the area were built in the 50’s, with subsequent development in each decade since. There are still new homes being built sporadically in Mira Mesa.

The community has an array of homes and styles, which encompass single-family houses, condominiums, and town homes. Residents of Mira Mesa enjoy several modern shopping and entertainment complexes, eight community parks, a senior center, a community college, an aquatic complex, an ice arena, and a movie theater. Close proximity to Miramar Lake and Miramar Reservoir give residents a wide array of water recreation options, including boating and fishing.

Mira Mesa has easy access to Interstate 15, just above the 163 Split which heads to downtown San Diego. It is only about 20 minutes to downtown or to the beaches of La Jolla or Del Mar. Compared to La Jolla real estate just a few miles west, Mira Mesa real estate is a great bargain.  Immediately to the North are the neighborhoods of Rancho Penasquitos and Rancho Bernardo. Poway and Scripps Ranch are across Interstate 15, which serves as the eastern boundary of Mira Mesa.

For affordability and convenience, Mira Mesa is a good option for many San Diego home buyers. There are similar homes for sale at higher prices in University City directly west. Also consider newer Carmel Valley houses and Rancho Penasquitos homes for sale to the north, and Scripps Ranch homes directly east.
