Mira Mesa is a popular north/central/inland community in San Diego, located only ten miles east of the Pacific Ocean along Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve. The neighborhood began as a housing development for military families with service personnel stationed at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station to the South. Today Mira Mesa is a wonderful community offering residents a diverse atmosphere served by hundreds of businesses and amenities.
The coastal San Diego climate provides a warm summer-like atmosphere much of the year in Mira Mesa. The neighborhood is a convenient commute to most major centers of employment in San Diego. Mira Mesa Boulevard stretches several miles, lined by a plethora of businesses that range from big-box stores like Target and Home Depot to small ethnic groceries and restaurants.
Mira Mesa is a popular bedroom community for San Diego professionals. Directly to the West of Mira Mesa is Sorrento Valley, which is home to a growing number of technology-based companies. Residents of Mira Mesa enjoy several modern shopping and entertainment complexes, eight community parks, a senior center, a community college, an aquatic complex, an ice arena, and a movie theater. Close proximity to Miramar Lake and Miramar Reservoir give residents a wide array of water recreation options, including boating and fishing.
Homes in Mira Mesa are generally more affordable than similar University City homes, Carmel Valley homes, or Scripps Ranch homes. Condos currently on the market range in price from $115,000 for a one bedroom to $139,000 for a two-bedroom condo, with some priced as high as $600,000. Single-family houses in Mira Mesa are priced between $300,000 and $800,000. Compared to La Jolla real estate which starts around $800,000, Mira Mesa real estate is a great bargain.
Mira Mesa has easy access to Interstate 15, just above the 163 Split which heads to downtown San Diego. It is only about 20 minutes to downtown or to the beaches of La Jolla or Del Mar. Immediately to the North are the neighborhoods of Rancho Penasquitos and Rancho Bernardo. Poway and Scripps Ranch are across Interstate 15, which serves as the eastern boundary of Mira Mesa.
