I would also recommend following the IAS360 House Price Index (http://www.iasreo.com/ias360.html). It’s the only timely (3-4 weeks before Case Schiller) and granular index to go down to the county level making it the leading industry index.

WOW!!! Very interesting information to know about one’s own city, and the place you love! I’ve lived in some of the most beautiful, most beloved cities in the Western world: native San Franciscan, the S.F. Bay Area, Huemoz-(Switzerland), Boston, Heidelberg-(Germany), London: Harpenden, and SD!! I will never leave San Diego: Carmel Valley, Del Mar, due to all of the obvious reasons mentioned already, but especially the magnificent natural beauty, and Pacific Ocean, close enough to the mountains, to ski and surf on the same day! But, shhhh, don’t tell anyone (:

Thanks for the information on the neighborhoods and schools. It’s terific that the crime rates have dropped. Obviously safe neighborhoods are a critical concern to interested buyers.
