Hints for a Good Visit
-
The San Diego Zoo is located in
Balboa Park. Follow signs from almost
anywhere.
-
WRITE DOWN the location where
you parked. After a long day at the zoo,
it’s easy to forget whether you parked near the ostrich or the
elephant.
-
Animals are active in the early
morning and afternoon. Save mid-day for
viewing the animal shows.
-
Save your feet - sit down with
a San Diego Zoo map and plan your route
in advance.
-
Allow at least a half day for
your San Diego Zoo visit.
-
The best way to see the animals
is by foot, but you’ll walk about 3-4 miles
if you see everything, and some of the paths are steep. Avoid the steepest
climbs by walking downhill and using the speedramps or the The Skyfari
Tram. The Kangaroo bus tour (all day with on/off privileges) is a good
way to get around without walking and the guided bus tours are an excellent
option for those with limited mobility.
-
Refreshments are plentiful but
expensive (a small bottle of water is $2 and
a large soda is $3). Consider the excess price a San Diego Zoo donation.
